CHAPTER 3 (unbeta)

Five years had passed. Not a single feature on Nino’s face had changed. except, the man looked tired than what he remembered.

It took Ohno a few time of trying to persuade the man into a talk. He felt grateful for two reasons; one, Nino had save him. Two, he finally met the man. But Nino on the other hand was trying so hard to keep a distance from him.

Ohno didn’t give up though and his efforts worth when Nino finally agree to meet him.

Half an hour passed since he observed the man. When Nino started to talk in annoyance, he stopped.

“You had a successful life now?” Nino asked, eyes refused to meet Ohno. Ohno nodded. Nino’s question sounds so cold to his ears, somehow it felt piercing to his heart.

“Good,” Nino replied it short, stirring the coffee in front of him.

“How about you, Nino? Are you-“

“It’s none of your problem, right?” Nino snapped. “You really should make this short, Ohno. If it isn’t my patience, i would have strangled you to death by now. What do you want exactly by meeting me?”

Ohno started to move uncomfortably on his seat. By the time his mouth opened to reply, every words sounded shaky and unconvincing.

“To thank you. For what happened last time,”

Nino chuckled, though Ohno could sense there a hint of mock in that.

“You’re welcome,” Nino replied, a smirk formed on his lips. When minutes past with an awkward silence, Nino broke it. “You’re done?”

Ohno didn’t reply to the question. He bit his lips, wondering of the right words he should begin with to make sure that everything won’t turn worst later on. He needed Nino to agree, but every ideas seems impossible to him.

He heard Nino click his tongue, grabbing his bag as he decided to leave. Instinctively, Ohno grabbed the man’s hand only to be yanked off harsh by Nino.

“I-“

“Seriously, Ohno. I knew you. You won’t come to me if it wasn’t for something benefit for you. Spill it, now. Or you won’t have any more chance,”

Ohno should have expected. He knew Nino won’t help him easily after all the things that happened between them 5 years ago. And of course, Nino would never want to help him for someone who he left him for. But he was desperate. If he had the chance, he would refuse to meet the man for such a selfish request.

But his wife is dying and he knew he needed to try.

One deep breath, he started to speak. Nino’s response afterwards was expected.

“my wife- Kazu please, listen-“

Nino didn’t even let him to finish when he grabbed his stuff all along, leaving Ohno. Putting a few notes on the counter, he left the restaurant, refused to look back.

His heart ache, burning with pain and hatred he’s been suppressed this past years. The wound inside was still bleeding and meeting ohno was like rubbing salt onto it. It was indeed a bad decision, despite how many times he gave a thought about it. Yet, he still met the man.

But hearing the word from Ohno’s mouth- my wife- was just too much for him. He hurt him for her. He left him for her. And the word sounded so proud from the man’s mouth. It feels like mocking him in every single direction, stabbing him without mercy.

But then, Ohno never left him. There’s nothing between them at all. It wasn’t the right word.

Before he could went far enough, Ohno’s hand grabbed his. He yanked it harsh once again, throwing the man a glare, hoping it would kill the man just by doing it.

“You’re jerk, you know that!” he hissed, trying to avoid any attention.

“She’s dying-”

“I don’t care what ever happen to her, Ohno. You’ve made your decision and I’ve made mine. So get off!”

“Kazu-“

“And you have no right to call me Kazu,” Nino said, trying to end the conversation between them. He turned, trying to walk away from the man when Ohno grabbed him once again, stopping him.

“Nino please. Wait. I said wait,” he turned Nino to face him. “Look, I don’t want to do this as well,”

“Then you shouldn’t!” Nino yelled, obviously annoyed. “I know you never look at me with any respect, Ohno. That’s the reason why you used me last time. But this time, please. Build up some respect for me and let me enjoy my life without you!”

“please, Nino,” Ohno begged. “This is my last resort. I can’t let it go without trying,”

“You’ve tried. And you failed. As simple as that,” Nino said, pushing the man away from him. He rushed his steps, trying to ignore how desperate Ohno was as he tried to catch up with him.

“But she’s dying. Her last request is to meet you. That’s all I can ask from you. Just, believe me. I don’t want to this. You deserved your happiness. But for this one, please. I won’t bother you anymore afterwards,”

“why should i?” Nino stopped, turned to glare at him. Every single words of explanation that came from Ohno’s mouth sounds ridiculous to him and he seriously have no intention on hearing him anymore, let alone agree to do whatever he will be asked.

“you’re a good-“

“of course I am, Ohno. I let you to use me for years, remember,”

Ohno bit his lips. Nino was right.

“i know i don’t deserve any help from you, but-“

Nino snorted.

“She has no reason to meet me again after you broke my heart for her. I don’t care whatever your reason is, but I’ve promised myself to not meet her again. You should leave now,”

Ohno fell silent. Again? He frowned upon the words

“what do you mean by again?” Ohno asked. “You’d met her before?”

Nino rolled his eyes.

“I do, Ohno. Wanna know why? Because i asked her to give up on you. I told her that i can’t live without you. I told her that you’re my life that separating from you would kill me. And what do i get in response? She said she can’t. She loved you. She, being such a proud bitch declared that she can do it better than me. That she will take care of you more than anyone could. And i guess she did. If that is the reason why she wanted to meet me, then she’s a bitch and i wouldn’t let my pride being stepped by a bitch!”

He had gone too far, Nino knew it. Hence when he felt a sharp pain on his face, he wasn’t surprised. But watching how furious Ohno was, a stabbing pain felt in his chest.

“It’s fine if you never want to meet her again, Nino. It’s fine,” Ohno hissed, anger was shown in his eyes. “But never insult her. She’s my wife!”

Hurts. That’s all he could feel.

“it wasn’t her fault. It’s mine! I shouldn’t give you hope. I shouldn’t use you for my own satisfaction. It’s not her fault. If you’re going to feel mad about it, lash it out to me. Not her!”

A few seconds of silence. Just when he sure they had nothing to be said anymore, Ohno left, leaving him alone.

Nino saw the disappointment from the way Ohno walked away. he knew, despite all the things that had happened between them before, he was being selfish by his own decision. But for once, can’t he?

Ohno’s words echoed inside his head. He must have loved her so much. So damn much to do all this for her. The thoughts echoed inside his head. And when it trailed to how Ohno would never love him the same way he loved her, Nino couldn’t stop his tears from falling.

He drove back to his house. His sight blurred by the tears.
