The second annual Congress of Physics Students has ended. Once more, it was amazing this year, even better than the last one as there were many more participants. Unfortunately there was a power cut on the first day in the middle of on student's presentation and the rest of the activities for the day were cancelled due to a storm warning. However, the student organizers did a great job transferring all the presentations to the next day.

I decided to participate this year with a presentation about sound in various astrophysical phenomena. There's the soudn waves produced in the magnetospheres of planets with a magnetic field (Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune), the sound waves produced within stars causing oscillations on their surfaces, radial (most notably in variables) and transversal, forming more than a million modes of oscillation, like in the Sun. I also spoke of high frequency radio waves emitted by púlsars, the sound produced in a supernova just before it blows and the possible presence of sound waves when the universe was formed. The coolest thing where the sound files I played for the audience. All in all, a very interesting subject with the potential to delight the audience. Pity I blew it by being the worst public speaker on God's Earth. I stuttered, lost the thread of what I was saying, didn’t explain things clearly… terrible. I was just so nervous.

Happily, the rest of the students did a much better job and there was a Great variety of styles and subjects. I súpose I’ll put it down to experience and do better next year. The important thing is that I had fun and several people came up to me saying that they enjoyed my presentation after all. We then went out for dinner and clubbing. I had a passionfruit margarita for the first time. I liked it!

Yesterday  at my sister’s house an ad for the Brit Awards came up, which led to me yelling gleefully: “It’s David Tennant, it’s David Tennant!” Indeed there he was, hugging Kylie. My sister gave me an odd look. Who cares, I can’t help my squee!

astronomy, david tennant, speech is not my strong point, physics, real life
