Today I received an e-mail from the University of Pittsburgh Summer Language Institute; my scholarship is being given an upgrade.

The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Russian and Eastern European Studies has awarded me a fellowship. It's big. Now I am getting a full ride on top of a living stipend. I'm now getting paid to attend their school ( Read more... )

Life is being consumed more and more by school. This is disheartening, yet fulfilling. I wish I had more of a social life, yet I am still enjoying history. Sometimes I can really loathe doing so much work, but since I am not miserable, I shall keep plodding ahead ( Read more... )

Yesterday was productive grading the Latin American History exams, or at least a good chunk of them. They were, for the most part, better than I had expected. The problem, however, is that out of 71 students in the class, I only have 55 midterms in my possession, which leaves a very large number of 16 students that have yet to turn in the midterm. Yesterday I didn't touch the conference paper because I wanted to ponder it first; today I have already begun the process of editing...and by editing I mean gutting the entire paper. I never realized that writing original work based on original research could be so much fun. I am halfway done with the conference paper already (minor editing to my footnotes aside) and I actually have to force myself to stop and take a break. The research portion of the conference paper is winding down, and I am doing a rough sketch of the paper this weekend. Though my sources are a little thin for a normal length publishable article, for a 12-page conference paper they will be fine.
