There are times I wonder if the Doctor is just punishing Jack for what Rose did to him and that each time they interact, things just go from bad to worse. I finally got to tape the arc episodes with the Master and that Year so I'll spend the weekend with those. This is a great story but I really wanted to slap hellfire into Gwen and her single minded stupidity and stalking of Jack. Ok, I feel for Rhiannon and poor Ianto having to Retcon her and while I can sympathize with Alice up to a point, her venemous abusiveness to Jack, even after the events of the latest 456 incursion, are inexcusable. He's already lost her and his grandson; now he loses another child, albeit one he didn't realize he was carrying? The man can't do anymore penance for his grandson's loss but Ianto's defense was masterful. I just hope the Doctor will leave them alone to follow their own lives together.

But you've opened up a curious and tantalizing premise: when the Doctor left Jack at the spacestation bar and slipped him the note about Alonzo the last time he saw Jack, I wonder just what this is setting up the Series for because I honestly hate that Face of Boe thing Jack supposedly becomes!

I don't know what, if anything, that particular scene was setting up, but I do know that Moffat is planning to make use of the fact that Capaldi has played two roles in the DW/TW-verse previously. This is some of what Moffat said regarding that: I remember Russell [T Davies] told me that he had a big old plan as to why there were two Peter Capaldi’s in the Who universe: one in Pompeii and one in Torchwood. When I cast Peter and Russell got in touch to say how pleased he was, I said, ‘Okay, what was your theory and does it still work?” and he said, ‘Yes it does. Here it is…’

We’ll play that one out over time. It’s actually quite neat.

That scene always bugged me when the Doctor left that note, which is why I wrote this story. I hope you enjoyed this story and liked the outcome.

Me too. *Nods* I mean, surely RTD could have come up with something that did more to, maybe not give Jack closure, per se, but at least give him the will to stop running away & move forward after what happened! Because a (presumably) one-night stand with a stranger? Given the way Jack changed over the course of TW (and I honestly think he did, quite dramatically), I don't think something like that would have done the trick anymore.

I did 8). *Nods* Very sad, of course, because Alice will likely never forgive Jack for what he did, and he essentially had to do the same thing he did to defeat the 456 before (and this time, I imagine it affected him even more, since it was his own child he indirectly sacrificed), but nowhere near as bleak as the actual ending of COE, because Jack hasn't lost everything he loves. It's more of a bittersweet ending, really, and often times, those are the best kind :). *Nods again* Well done =)! *Applauds you*

Thank you.

I wonder that too,but it's not as Jack asked for this life. He's just making the best he can with the hand he was dealt
