Horrified

I'm overtaken with a sense of doubt and grief at the idea of what happend yesterday at Virginia Tech. There is clearly something wrong with this world when someone can execute that many fellow students without a second thought. I wish more information were available. I wish to know what ran through this mans head, what motivated him, what justified in his mind the actions he was about to take. Is there any justification or is person capable of such things as this attrocity so far gone from logic that they don't realize what they do. I have a hard time believing that the shooter was so completely insane that he wasn't aware of the wrong he was doing. I wish it were so that someone couldn't be cognizant of such a thing, but it's sad to say he had to have known.

The information keeps coming in on the radio and television. It's too much and at the same time it's not enough. I want to know more about and nothing about it. I'm ambivalent in this whole situation. The condition of our society is one that irks me beyond comprehension. While some people are actually mourning the loss of the students who passed yesterday others are trying to get their major break. The media is going wild with scare tactics trying to fill their 8-9 slot. Hosts are interviewing just random students about the incident, who aren't even students attending Virgina Tech. Meanwhile hosts just interview several Virginia Tech students in a row not even giving them the chance to rest from losing friends. The answers are all the same grief stricken individuals who want a moments peace. The media's shameless exploitation of this event is intolerable. I was very happy to hear this morning that 101.1 WJRR brought it up briefly and gave their condolences and then moved on. For a spot of maybe 20 minutes they made fun of scare tactics and then moved on to another issue. Other stations and news are just keeping it going. They no longer have any information to go on.

It's something along the lines of this
"The student carried a gun into the classroom, after opening fire in a dorm."
....."do you know how easy it is to conceal a pistol? We'll have experts in our 5pm showing telling how to spot it and how it could happen at your school."

I understand the need to try and give tactics on spotting such things, but this is not the case, this is just an act for ratings now. If the media really wanted to help, then perhaps they can start running more fund raisers for the grieving families or fund raisers for programs to better prepare students to react during such an incident. Like the programs some schools inlisted after comlumbine, teaching students how to hide and escape upon knowledge of a shooter approaching.
