As shocking as it is that Antigone dies at the end of her self-titled play……
I think the more shocking aspect is her father, Oedipus Rex!
I mean, like Ohmygod! Her father is her brother.
In all seriousness, if this was around today, it’d be too scandalous for any soap opera, and if it was in one, it would make the headlines. Either way, Antigone is a beautiful play about honor, courage, and what family will do to help each other, no matter how backwards their relationship is. I hear people say all the time how they would stand up for their “bro” no matter what. We all know this is bullshit though; they know it, the bro knows it, I know it. There is nothing closer than a bloodline, no matter how close you think you are to a person.
Antigone died for the sake of her brother’s burial, he was already dead! And those people that say the most probably wouldn’t lift a finger for their friends.
I can’t say all this for sure, but when it comes down to it, all we have in the end is our family, without them we are not the same.
So, all you flat-billed hat, tank top wearing douchebags with the same dumbass tribal tattoos that mean “Honor” or “Respect” don’t know what half those words mean-and from what I’ve seen half of you can’t even spell them correctly.
Say I’m wrong all you want, but I believe these ideas have been misconstrued in modern society.
Was he your brother when you slept with his girlfriend? That's what I thought.
