AHH Japanese language is sooo hard. Everytime i communicate with japanese people i feel so stupid. I really like it here though. I certainly wouldnt mind living here, but my friend tells me thats only cause i dont speak the language very well, if i did i would experience Japan in a whole new light. Are you really advanced at japanese?

Yeah I know what you mean. I can do things like read books and newspapers, do speeches and discussions, and write term papers in Japanese, although none of those perfectly. I still feel like I can barely function in certain situations, especially when it comes to participating in conversations among native speakers.

It's true that knowing the language makes it easier to understand some things, but it has a lot more to do with how good the people you're with are at explaining their thoughts and attitudes than with what language you're using. But yeah, I've found that part of learning a language is dealing with feeling like an idiot most of the time while understanding that no matter how much you embarrass yourself, 1). You are not actually an idiot, and 2). Other people probably don't think you're actually an idiot either.
