Public Transportation and the Google Maps API
Ever since Google Maps (and its subsequent API) appeared, I've been fantasizing about building an interactive map of the MBTA's subway and bus system. Luckily, I'm not the only dreamer out there, and someone with a lot more ambition has already worked out a compelling first draft. It may not be as visually compelling as New York's version, but the fact that it scrapes arrival data in real time from the MBTA's trip planner is pretty fucking awesome. I'd say it's a sign of great things to come.
