We did our taxes and I want to cry

Our tax appointment was awful. We went in knowing we would owe some money, but left completely shell shocked at just how much Uncle Sam says we owe him. It kinda ruined my day. The crappy thing is that we had money set aside for taxes and it won't even cover 25% of what we owe

Oh no! Why do you owe so much? I haven't ever owed before, so I can't imagine that...

But NEXT year, oh god, I might owe like 25,000 or 30,000 to California because of my short sale. I'm scared. :(
