Dear Billie Joe, thank you for an amazing show last night!
Tuesday night was one of first's and last's. It was the first concert I've been to this year and the last show on Green Day's tour. Our destination was the Forum and after finding out my boss and another co-worker were both going, we had been psyching ourselves up the last few days.
Adam picked me up from work at 6. Being a Tuesday, the 405 was gloriously empty as we cruised from Irvine to Inglewood in just over thirty minutes. Add that to the list of first's! After stopping for some affordable dinner at Carl's, we made it to the Forum parking lot just after 7:30.
I've got to rant here. Ok, so the Forum has no more Lakers or Kings, must they make up their lost revenue by charging $22 bucks for parking?!?! Seriously.
I had purchased my tickets from the KROQ pre-sale and was thus required to pick them up at will call. I was a bit skeptical, but it seemed as if every ticket window was open and the line was moving. Took me less than 5 minutes to get my tickets, GA floor, another first for me, usually I prefer having a seat. :o)
Show time was 8 PM and Franz Ferdinand opened up just about on time. I have their first cd, but they weren't the reason why I was there, and while they put on a good show, I'm glad they only played for about 30 minutes. We had made it pretty close to the front of the stage for Franz Ferdinand and it was enjoyable, but I knew there was no way we'd stay that close for Green Day. I'm just too short to be that close and be able to see anything.
Just after 9PM Green Day took the stage and the next 3 hours flew by! The show was awesome, there's no other way to describe it. I was impressed when I saw them at Home Depot when American Idiot came out, but they totally played this show for the fans. It was a great experience to be on the floor too, such energy! There were different levels of "into it" because the crowd was very diverse age-wise, but I can say that every single person around me was just as captivated as I was.
There's no way for me to remember the entire set list, but according to one site, it was something like this:
1. 21st Century Breakdown
2. Know Your Enemy
3. East Jesus Nowhere
4. Holiday
5. The Static Age
6. Before the Lobotomy
7. Are We the Waiting
8. St. Jimmy
9. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
10. 2000 Light Years Away
11. Hitchin' A Ride
12. Welcome To Paradise
13. Disappearing Boy
14. Tight Wad Hill
15. When I Come Around
16. Brain Stew
17. Jaded
18. Longview
19. Basket Case
20. She
21. King For A Day
22. Shout (The Isley Brothers cover)
23. 21 Guns
24. American Eulogy
Encore:
25. American Idiot
26. Jesus Of Suburbia
27. Minority
Encore 2:
28. Macy's Day Parade
29. Last Night On Earth
30. Good Riddance
Knowing that Green Day always ends with the same song, and knowing they had completed the first encore, we walked out to Macy's Day Parade (which I had fun singing all the way down the tunnel)! I got to listen to Last Night on Earth while I bought an overpriced, but awesome t-shirt (complete with skulls on it)! The original plan was to head out when Good Riddance started, but it was pretty late so I don't mind that we left a song early. By the time we got home it was after 1AM, but we were able to avoid massive traffic leaving the parking lot, and when you've got to be at work at 7:30 am the next morning, you can miss the last song of the show.
This morning was rough, I'm definitely not 21 anymore! Standing from 8-12 is a LONG time. Add on bouncing around, cheering, singing along, and your general concert going actions and yesterday proved to be quite exhausting. Managed to get into work only 15 minutes late (hehe, when my boss got in the first thing she said was: don't even tell me you were on time today!) and Adam picked me up a Grande Java Chip Frap to get me through the morning. It was a double dose of caffiene today because I nursed a Dr. Pepper in the afternoon to get me through until 5:30.
It was good times to recount our experiences at work this morning too. My boss and co-worker had just as great of a time as I did, I think the first thing we all said was that it was awesome.
Cameras weren't allowed yesterday, so Adam took a few pictures with his i-phone. I'm waiting for him to send them to me. Not that I'd have had the patience to take pictures last night, I was there to enjoy the show, and enjoy it I did. :o) One last thing though...
Dear Billie Joe: Please play a show in the OC next time!
