Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier is very funky. Well written, and uses Grimm's The Six Swans as a framework. I'd forgotten all about it, but I read it as a child and loved it. Was my birthday today! and I got pressies too. I got two books from Emma (Another Place at the Table and Mister Monday by Garth Nix !yay!), tickets to the footy from Jackie and Andy (shame we lost), and a bondage teddy bear, a box of choccies and a Gloria Jeans mug from David.
