Last night, O'Reilly was making an odd noise in the kitchen, so I got up and opened the door, and he came out with a huge rat. I've known there were rats in there for a while - we've found a couple of dead ones first thing in the morning, seen a couple of glimpses of Definitely-Bigger-Than-A-Mouse at night - but it's the first time one of the cats has caught a live one. It wasn't dead, but fortunately was stunned enough for me to grab it in a towel and take it outside. If it recovered, likely it will find its way back in, but for now, one less rat in my house is a good thing.

Been weeding out the strip down the path side of the house. It's tough going. The morning glory my grandmother planted (curse it!) is completely invasive and very difficult to remove, but I'm hoping that if I'm ruthless enough I'll get it under control for a while, at least. When I've done that, I'll prune the daisy bushes and wormwood back hard and underplant so that there's not just nice empty soil for the morning glory to infest again. Don't know what I'll plant yet. Right now, there's just a bunch of white native violets, but if I can plant something useful and/or scented, I'll be happy.

I was starting to worry I wouldn't get my marvel bang fic done by the due date, but right now, I'm not going too badly. Firstly, I finished up a half-done Steve/Peggy/Bucky AU I had languishing half done on my hard drive, just in case I couldn't get my original idea - a sequel thing to Mark Waid's Captain America: Man Out of Time - to work. But I'm over halfway through that, too, so I'll likely end up with two stories. Emma's expressed interest in arting for both of them, and if she's got the energy and the inspiration, I won't say no.

I am inexpressibly angry with how bad the exchange rate is right now. I want Agents of SHIELD Season 2 and Agent Carter on Bluray, but with the shitty exchange and high postage cost, I'm looking at $130+ AU. And I would have to give money to Amazon, which I hate. At least Age of Ultron we're essentially getting free, with a rewards points gift card thing. I'm getting the steelbook from JBhifi, because reasons.

My birthday is in a month, and I have so many things I want that I will never be able to afford. Top of the list are the aforementioned series, but I have a heap of comics I want in hardback or trade, too (Young Avengers vol 2, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Hawkeye vs Deadpool, etc, etc). If anyone wants to get me something for my birthday, it's probably a good idea to ask what I want (since often, the particular edition or format is important to me) or buy me a Fishpond gift card. I have a massive wishlist on there, and I can just pick what I want to buy from the list with ease.
