State of things

The persistent car problems reached their crisis when we visited Sydney for Mardi Gras - Mum's mechanic bluntly informed us it had a laundry list of faults, half of which needed doing before rego, which was in two weeks. The cost would be more than the car was worth.

Mum had already mentioned she was thinking of buying us a car in a year or two, and the need sped up the timeframe. Fortunately, she's got a bit of flexibility with her mortgage. We ended up trading in Betty, our faithful 2001 Holden Commodore for a low mileage 2004 Toyota Camry Azura. It'll take us four or so years to pay Mum back, but we have wheels and don't have to consider moving to a town with public transport just yet.

Tentative name of Jarvis for the new car, because he's a bit posh and old-fashioned inside. It's leather upholstery and fake wood inlay.

Also - a working CD player. We found a folio of mix cds in the old car simply numbered from one to eleven, and we're enjoying the journey of discovering the songs we chose to throw together probably ten years ago. It's really interesting.

I've stopped drinking caffeine. I had to. My anxiety and panic attacks were just getting too severe and uncontrollable. Since stopping, I have had anxiety, but not the constant level of anxiety plus spikes that I was getting.

I'm knitting frantically ahead of the Easter market. I have a good amount of stock, so it's just all bonus from here on, but I'd like to have as much as possible to put on the table for people to choose from. New this time around - stuff made from our hand spun in the cream fleece, and stuff knit from the same cotton/acrylic yarn I made my Breathe shawl from, for people with animal fibre sensitivity.

There's a bumper crop of apples in the abandoned orchard this year, along with quinces and some variety of Asian pear which are looking good but too hard to pick just yet. The apples are small, beautifully red and tart. Probably cookers by most people's measure, but we both like our apples tart.

Leaves are just starting to turn here, lemon yellow and confetti like while most everything is still green and the daytime temps are still in the warm-hot range. I can't wait for autumn to kick in for real.

Watching through Mythbusters. We've caught a bunch over the years, but never watched straight through. We're up to season four.

Agent Carter is everything that is wonderful and happy-making. Here's to getting a season two with more people of colour, more female-led narrative and character development, and more Peggy. All the Peggy. possibly with a girlfriend. Peggy Carter - the bisexual superhero we deserve. Hayley Atwell is up for it. Come on, Marvel!
