Exactly what it says on the tin.
Now, this is more like it. Just what I like in my movies, gratuitous violence, and lots of it!
Rutger Hauer plays the eponymous homeless guy who arrives in Hope Town, the biggest hive of scum and villainy you could possibly get. The hobo tries to get on peacefully and not interfere in all the chaos that erupts around him. Of course, it is only a matter of time before he gets fed up with all the crap and starts cleaning the place up one shell at a time.
This is an astonishingly sleazy movie, but in a good way. The bad guys are so totally over the top that you will barely believe your eyes. The same goes for the violence. Seriously. This movie isn't for the fainthearted. There's gallons of the red stuff splattered all over the place. One standout part is when the female lead has her hand shoved into a lawnmower. It's okay, she ends up stabbing the big bad with her arm bone. Yeah, it's that sort of movie.
Not everything in this movie is gloriously over-the-top, however. Rutger Hauer's performance is quite subtle, which makes a change to all the scenery-chewing the bad guys do. Funny fact: The guy that played one of the villains, Slick, also played the kid from Small Soldiers No, really.
I was also amazed to hear a surprisingly upbeat ending theme to such a dark movie. Remember The Raccoons? Yeah, the movie uses its ending theme. This one:

Next time: I'm starting on the Howling sequels now, so wish me luck. I'm only going to watch II and III. There's no way I'm desperate enough to watch the rest.
