Will Stronghold is the son of the world's two greatest superheroes The Commander and Jetstream. Will is about to start high school at the titular school for superheroes in training. Between dealing with a childhood friend who obviously has a crush on him, the son of one of his father's old enemies and the usual cliques of high school, will must contend with the fact he doesn't seem to have any superpowers and runs the risk of being assigned to the sidekick class.
This is a Disney movie about superheroes, so how could I not enjoy this one? The movie has a great cast as well. Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston as The Commander and Jestsream. The Commander is you general invincible hero with super-strength while Jetsream can fly. Lynda Carter of Wonder Woman fame is the principal and Bruce Campbell is the school coach. He has a sonic scream, which come sin handy for berated the students.
I was most surprised to see Danielle Panabaker from The Flash as Layla, Will's childhood friend who everybody can see has a crush on him. Panabaker's character in The Flash may or may not end up becoming Killer Frost, but here she has the ability to control plants, which makes her seem more like Poison Ivy. I guess that would make The Commander Superman. The main villain of the piece had a henchman named Stitches that seemed like a mash-up of the Joker and the Green Goblin. There are plenty of references to different comic book characters if you look hard enough.
I quite enjoyed this movie, but you could see some of the things that were going to happen from a mile off. When Will finally discovers his powers, he falls in with the popular crowd and ends up neglecting his friends. To the surprise of no-one, the popular kids all turn out to be super-villains.
Three and a half pointy hats.
