Years ago I set a generic goal for myself to "Read More Books" and though I marked that goal achieved quite a while ago, I have continued to try to improve. I did not count any books I started but abandoned (surprisingly many) in these totals, though I suppose when added together they amount to many additional pages read to no real result. Ah well...
Judging only my entries on Goodreads.com, I read 12 books back in 2007 when I was traveling more for my job and reading/listening to more books than I had in a long time.
In 2008 I stopped traveling as much and my rate of reading books fell. Only 8 books in 2008.
In 2009 I brought that total up to 10 books, definitely an improvement.
In 2010 I made a conscious effort to shut down the computer and get away from screens for at least 30 minutes before bed. Using this technique I bumped my total books read to 17 for the year, the highest number in 5 years.
In 2011 I plan to DOUBLE that number. So far, so good.
