SF Book Recommendation

Reil and I have been devouring James Alan Gardner's books recently - Expendable, Vigilant, Hunted, Ascending. They're quite a bit of fun, and an interesting way to frame a series around a character (Festina Ramos, who is the primary character of the first novel, Expendable, and a lesser - but still important - character in the following novels.)

Anyone else read a good book lately?
