Author's Notes: A first dose of gratefulness. I'm going on holiday so more doses of gratefulness might have to wait. But you deserved something straight away. Sorry it's not better.
“Ban-chan…”
“No.”
“I haven’t even asked yet,” said Ginji, sounding hurt.
“We are not going to help people for free because we feel sorry for them. We are not going to do something fun because you think it’s a good idea. We are not going to help Paul in the Honky-Tonk, no matter how much we owe on our bill and how bad you’re feeling about it. No.”
“It wasn’t any of those things?”
“No?”
“No.”
Ban pushed his glasses back onto his nose with one finger, apparently absent-mindedly. Ginji knew that Ban thought it made him look cool, but knew better than to comment. Anyway, part of Ginji thought it looked quite cool, and anyway - it was Ban doing it, so it was okay. Nevertheless, Ban was being mean. Ginji opened his eyes wide and attempted to look like a sad puppy. Ban scowled.
“What, then?” he asked grudgingly.
“Not saying.”
Ban shrugged.
“Okay.”
“Ban-chan, you’re supposed to beg me to tell you.”
The head was tilted on one side, an eyebrow was raised.
“Me?”
“That’s how it works.”
Ginji’s puppy-dog eyes were out in full force, but to no avail.
“Huh. Not with Ban Midou it doesn’t,” Ban declared firmly.
“Oh well. If you don’t want to know of a simple way to make lots of money…”
Ban froze.
“Wait… Wait… Go back a bit. Lots of money?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Tell me more.”
Ginji shook his head.
“Beg me.”
“Ginji…”
It was Ginji’s turn to shrug.
“Or don’t. I don’t mind. We don’t have to do anything at all.”
“Oh, all right,” Ban said grudgingly.
“All right, what?”
The glasses were pushed up again. The cigarette was lit and pushed between grudging lips.
“Please.”
“It wasn’t so hard, after all,” said Ginji happily; and smiled at Ban’s scowl.
