My parents just left for the annual friends' picnic my father's friends have been hosting for years. This year it was moved to August, from the last weekend in July, for reasons unknown to me, but it's better for dad because it means he's not as busy at work and doesn't have to ask for the day off.
I'm not stuck home all day; the second of my little cousins finished high school and his party is today. We only found out about it a couple of weeks ago, which is why I'm the only one going. That picnic is months in the planning, plus you have to pay to attend. This is the first of my cousins' parties where mom won't be going. Well, my grandfather won't be there, either, so it's not like she's the only family member who will be missing.
In the meantime, I'm about to be beset by storms. My parents left just as the thunder started cracking, though it had been rumbling off in the distance for a little bit. The storm is traveling at an angle and is hitting north of here now--and that's exactly where I'm going. Great. I hope what they're getting isn't so bad that there's damage, though considering it's supposed to rain in the afternoon, too, I have a feeling the party will be held inside regardless.
