The great grandparent round-up

My mother had to work yesterday, and for whatever reason decided to call my grandmother. The phone rang and rang and rang. Unusual, since grandma set up her machine to pick up on the first or second ring. Mom was concerned, so after she got off work she called and said she was going to run over and see if she was home, and either asked me to call or I volunteered to try her in the meantime. Called the home phone, let it ring 10 times--nothing. Called her cell, got her voicemail, left a message. Called home again, same thing. Called mom back to report. Said I'd call my grandfather in case he'd talked to her recently. Called him, got the machine, left a message. Called mom back. By this time she was only a few blocks away and said she'd look for familiar cars in the parking lot, except grandma parks in the building's garage, and if my cousin was working or something, her car wouldn't be there. Meanwhile, I'd been about to take a shower, so I took my phone with me into the bathroom in case someone called back. Mom did, right after I'd gotten in, and told me Michelle's car was in the lot, so at least someone was home, then proceeded to try and have a conversation with me as I was dripping all over the floor. Um, not the time. An hour later, mom called back saying she'd wanted lunch, had found a Bakers Square, and was bringing home pie. Yes, worrying about your elderly mother makes you hungry. Then my grandfather called and said he *had* spoken with grandma within a few days and thought she'd gone to Wisconsin with her girlfriend. After mom got home, grandma herself called; she was with the girlfriend--not a romantic girlfriend if you're wondering--and they'd gone downtown. She'd gotten a new old-people phone and was still getting used to it; it has Caller ID so she'd known we'd called, but her machine is not hooked up to it. Ah. Okay. And her cell needs to be charged, so perhaps that's why she didn't get my message there. A little bit after that, my grandfather called on his cell--apparently she'd seen his name on the Caller ID and called him back, but got his machine, so he was calling me to let me know she was okay, but calling on the cell in case she tried to call back on the regular phone.

Oh my lord.
If the phone doesn't ring for three days, it will still be too soon.
Thankfully, both of my grandparents are okay, but after mom got home she was like, aren't you glad I got everybody all worried for nothing? Uh, not really.
