Back from camp

Hello again! I got back yesterday a little after 5. I must say, I am very thankful we had camp last week and not this week. After going the entire summer without hitting 90F, we're supposed to hit nearly 100 today. Being at camp would be absolutely miserable. Luckily, for the most part, we did get nice weather. It did rain on Saturday while we were loading up to go out there, but it wasn't heavy and didn't last too long. Then we had about 10 minutes of rain during the first activity period on Monday; it didn't rain again until Friday. That actually sucked because all of our normal plans had to be scrapped. Friday afternoon is the dress rehearsal, generally outdoors, and we ended up not being able to do Monster Band. Also, even though the rain had stopped, it was damp and cool in the evening, meaning we couldn't light the bonfire and we had to take the beach out of the beach party; we held it in the cafeteria. And then it was warm/hot and muggy for the concert yesterday.

All in all it wasn't a bad week. Because of the painting, I hadn't been taking my vitamin C drops like I normally do in the morning. This meant my immunity wasn't as good as it usually is--heh, now I know why I stay so healthy--and I managed to get sick. On Sunday night I had yelled at a kid to not run with his or her instrument, only I didn't project properly and strained my voice. This led to a sore throat and then a head cold. I had to run out of rehearsal several times to blow my nose. Fun. Also, my normal alto voice has dropped a good octave. Like, I sang along to "Your Body is a Wonderland" on the way home yesterday and I sang it in the correct octave. Dang. I haven't hit pitches that low in years.

Of course, I have stories, and most of the pictures were taken with the digital camera; I took not quite 2 rolls of film while I was there. Of course, there's a story behind that. So, we're in morning rehearsal on Friday, and I can see out the window, and this truck full of port-o-potties comes rolling into camp. There has been just one time when POPs have shown up, so several of us started having flashbacks to '07. I don't fully know the story, but apparently some group that comes after us sets up a tent (which they also did on Friday, complete with jackhammers...why, I don't know) and needs POPs, and the people tried to convince us that they *always* come at this point in time, and we were all like, no, you don't, and I went outside to get pictures of them and I thought I was holding my camera and I wasn't and it fell and hit the steps outside the cafeteria. The batteries flew out and something broke off, though I have yet to figure out what, and when I turned it on the screen was just white. I panicked and pulled out the film camera to capture some stuff in case I'd totally borked the digital, but when I turned it back on a little while later it seemed fine. The only other time I used the film camera was during the talent show portion of the party, because I knew the digital wouldn't be able to take good pictures from far away. We'll see how well everything turns out once I download the pictures in the next few days.

Lastly for now, Mr. C found out that the counselors have been getting together at Lou Malnati's for pizza on the Saturday we get back, so he invited everyone over to his house last night as long as they supplied the pizza. I decided not to go because I was too tired and I don't live near them, but I would have loved to have gone. Overall we had a great group of counselors this year and I got along well with most of them. At least one of the girls pretty much didn't talk and I didn't see much of her, but otherwise they'd all come up and talk to me and tell me what was going on. Oh, believe me, there was a lot going on. But I'll save that for another time.
