Movin' on down

I think I mentioned that we got a new TV for dad's birthday. It's working out pretty well, and I like that we have the best of both worlds--we get both the digital and the cable channels, instead of just cable like before. However, this whole time the new TV has been sitting on a stool in front of the entertainment center because the old TV was just too heavy to move. Well, dad finally decided to move it tonight. Damn, that's heavy. I thought he said it was something like 138 pounds, but then today at one point said it was 168. I have weighed that much. If I'd put that TV on a teeter-totter when I was a sophomore in college, we'd have balanced out. Anyway, we managed to get it out of the entertainment center and onto the floor, and then we cleaned the eight years' worth of dust off of everything. Ew. Luckily my mom wasn't yet home, and she called right after that to say she was just leaving work. Phew. Trust me, it's better that she's not around when we do stuff like that. Dad wanted to put the old TV in the garage, but I rejected that idea. One, even though it doesn't work, it's still too nice of a TV to put in the garage where it's exposed to temperature extremes and where random people walking by can see it if the door's open. Two, my mother would not be happy. She wants him to clean that area, not add to it. Hello, just put it in the basement, even though it will be a hassle. So he did. Except he started doing it after he had a cigarette and a think on it and didn't initially ask me for help; I went downstairs after hearing a heavy thud of sorts. He'd gotten it strapped to a hand truck and was starting to attempt to move it down the stairs. Trust me, it wouldn't have been pretty, but we went stair by stair and got it done. Dad didn't even have a full heart attack, only a partial one. Damn, I can't let him do stuff like that for too much longer; he's getting old. Luckily, technology is making things smaller and lighter, so even if he can't move stuff, I probably could.

The best part: Mom was home for an hour before she even noticed the old TV was gone.
