My aunt called last night around nine o'clock. First off, I hate that people think it's okay to call that late. My parents get up early; they're generally in bed and falling asleep at that time. Hello, no later than eight o'clock unless you're specifically told it's okay. And it was right after we'd gotten a sales call too, which was even more annoying.
Anyway, both of my parents took the call, and I could hear mom's end of the conversation from down the hall. I could tell they were talking about my cousin Chris, who lives in California; they were talking about her daughter, Mia, whom we've never met and who is nearly seven. It almost sounded like they might be coming in for a visit.
Well, as it turns out, they are in town now; they've been here since Monday. Oh, well, thanks for letting us know. And the reason my aunt was calling was because they were going to visit my uncle on Saturday from 4-4:30, and they were going to come here afterward. Um, no. See, first, dad works on Saturdays in the summer. Second, it is his birthday, and he and mom and I sort of have tentative plans for the afternoon. Third, that evening, he has plans to see his buddies. This is why we, y'know, make plans in advance. By more than a few days. Because I would love to see my cousin; I can't even recall the last time I saw her. We may have been living in the old house still, so that goes back nearly 20 years. It sort of sounds like Chris' family came in like they were regular tourists to Chicago and, oh, by the way, we also have relatives here. Nice. At least Mia will get to see all of her cousins tomorrow; I guess they're going to the zoo. See, now, I would love to go to the zoo with all of them, but God forbid you send an email and at least let us know you're even coming to town.
