Will the poltergeist please stop messing with the computer?

I don't know what's going on. The computer works; it doesn't; it works; it doesn't. Right now it's straddling the line. AOL is back to its messed-up status with the little mail-error warning popping up. And, better yet, Netscape has flipped out. I click on it, it pretends that it's going to do something, but then it stops like you've never clicked on it at all. Not good. At least this, the downstairs computer, also has Explorer and something called Safari (a Mac thing, maybe?). But last night and this morning, we weren't able to get online through this computer at all. So, if there's some sort of computer poltergeist, let it be known that once my taxes are done...and I'll be paying through the nose, thank you very much...I hope to have enough money left to purchase my very own computer that only I will use. Me. Not my mom. Maybe my dad, but he has two computers that are his (his Mac laptop and his PC standard computer on which he plays games). I know, I'll let him load certain programs on mine. ;) But, this way, if my mom is the only one who is on this computer, and it still has issues, then we'll all know it's her, her email, her websites that have some sort of corruption. She keeps saying, stop blaming me, I don't know anything about technology. But she doesn't seem to realize that that could be part of the problem. She knows enough to get online but that's about it. I've seen her open mail from people she doesn't know (though she claims she hasn't done that in a while), and I have no idea about some of these websites she visits. I just worry that at some point she's going to open up the computer to major stuff. She's famous for going online and then getting up to go to the bathroom, get something to eat, whatever...and then she never comes back. She doesn't realize that there are people who have the ability to hack into your computer just because you leave your internet connection open. By having my own computer, it would at least make my stuff safer. Or, at least, I'd know I was the one causing the issues and it would be easier for me to play around and fix it.
