1. I knew I'd wanted to mention something about Woodman's, but totally forgot about it when I finally got online. Internet access has been slim to nonexistent as of late. Anyway, all three of us went grocery shopping, and when we got to the last light before the store we noticed this smell--something was burning. It was pretty strong, too, and down by the next light on the cross street the air looked hazy. Fast forward to when we left; there was a fire truck parked on the side of the road on said cross street, and something was smoldering. Dad and I realized it was the weird bunker house by the store, the one that appears to be built into the side of a hill. You can't really tell because the front of the house faces away from the street. But it's always fascinated us, and we imagine some hermit lives there. Dad checked the paper this morning and there wasn't a story about it. Mom thought that maybe it was a controlled burn/practice situation, but that sort of thing is noted in the paper so the nearby residents don't worry, and we didn't see anything like that in the previous week's papers. Interesting. Hope nobody got hurt.
2. Last week, dad picked up a loaf of mini rye bread for the heck of it, in case we got all fancy on NYE. Well, we never touched it, and while shopping I thought, hey, maybe we could make mini grilled cheese sandwiches when we get home. Dad initially pooh-poohed the idea, but as soon as we were home and the groceries put away, he pulled out the frying pan and all the supplies and made a bunch of sandwiches. They were pretty good. And we used up half the mini loaf in the process.
3. Justin Timberlake highly amuses me, so when I saw that the SNL in which he cameo-ed was set to rerun last night, I made it a point to watch. I wanted to see the whole Beyonce video bit. But JT also appeared on Weekend Update, and he said he was originally supposed to host the following show, which was the Saturday before Thanksgiving--and my birthday--but had to cancel. His being on Update was to give a five-minute run-through of what the show would have been like. One of the purported bits would have been the Barry Gibb Talk Show. If this was true, that meant that my birthday show would have had not only JT, but Jimmy Fallon. I'm so glad it didn't happen, even if JT was just joshing, because I would have been so pissed. Now *that* would have been the perfect birthday SNL. Instead, I got a host and musical guest so uninteresting to me that I didn't bother committing them to memory. Still, glad I got to see it. JT still amuses me.
