The Gas We (Don't) Pass (On)

(If you are unfamiliar with The Gas We Pass and Everyone Poops, then shame on you.)

The other night, when dad and I finally went shopping, I needed gas. In my whole 3.4 miles to work, I pass two gas stations. On the way home, the first one was at $3.17; the second, $3.07. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get gas at that time, so I went on the way to the grocery store. I pulled over, unscrewed the gas cap, swiped my card, stuck in the nozzle, and...nothing happened. The attendant came by and said, sorry, we're out of 87 grade, the truck will be here in two hours. Great. So dad and I continued on with our shopping (which included the elusive search for a 2-liter bottle of Lipton raspberry iced tea and me dumping my container of coupons all over the floor...whoops). We passed, I don't know, three gas stations on the way to and from. All of their gas was in the $3.3x range. Holy crap. So I made up my mind to go back and get the super-cheap gas, 'cause it wouldn't stay that way for long.

Price at 9:45 that night: $3.12 (5¢ more expensive, but 5¢ less than the next cheapest gas)
Price at 7:50 the following morning: $3.35 (holy crap! Glad I didn't wait!)
Price at 7:50 this morning: $3.29

At least it did come down slightly, but still. Frank, you may have the right idea with biking as much as possible. And to think I can remember gas for under $1...and that it was as cheap as 79¢ when I was in college. It's been less than ten years since then.
