Sundays aren't busy...wait...

Dec 03, 2006 21:32

We started our new person, S, today. He was a little late, but that wasn't a big deal. R got him started on paperwork, and then once that was done (maybe 1:15, 1:30) I put him on a register to train. We didn't get very far before what seemed like the entire population of the Tri-Cities converged at the registers. Then, I was ringing up customers until I got pulled away and Pa. took over; R was busy looking up books for a lady, tying up the computer for two *other* people who wanted to look up/order stuff; and there was S, happily practicing scanning. I couldn't even take the register out of training mode, it got that busy--I kept getting pulled away by different people. Phew. Around 2, I was given instructions to take my lunch, and R took S down to the kiosk. But it was still so busy that I wasn't sure I wanted to leave Pa. by himself. He would be fine, and I knew that, but there were just a *lot* of people there. We ended up doing almost $1000 between 2 and 4, and about $1600 between noon and four--better than a whole regular Sunday. And, we were open until seven (which one person claimed was too late--we should only be open 'til five. Let this woman run the mall!). I barely got to talk to S, which is too bad; he won't be back until Thursday or so. But I think the guys are glad to have another male on staff; R told me yesterday that he was trying to even the odds a little bit. And Pa. was excited because, he said yesterday, he works with a bunch of old ladies. Gee, thanks--and you wonder why I throw stuff at you.
