Despite what I might write, I work with a fun group of people. We definitely all have our quirks, and some quirks may get on our nerves more than others, but overall we get along.
One of my quirks, which I inform everyone of as soon as they start working with me, is my anal-retentiveness. Perhaps you've heard me mention this. I like things in a certain way, and I don't like people touching my stuff. Also, I tend to get very bored at the kiosk. Since I've been doing this for ten holiday seasons now, I can find ways to amuse myself rather easily. A good month ago, I found a button on the floor that looked like a pig's snout. Since I had nothing better to do, I took some scrap paper, taped the button to the paper, and drew up a pig around it. Clever namer that I am, I called the pig Oinky, and I wrote "Oinky Loves Calendars!" at the top. Oinky had presided over the kiosk for a while without issue...until last Tuesday, when I went down to give M her break. That's when I found this:
Someone had pockmarked my pig!
M had already noticed and put up a note saying that the Oinkster and I would be after whomever did this. I immediately thought of Pa. He'd been messing with our stuffed bears on Sunday, so it wouldn't surprise me that he'd given my pig a black eye. When I talked about it later with the rest of my coworkers, all of them immediately figured it was him as well (way to have character witnesses, lawyer-boy). Still, having time on my hands, I wrote up a wanted poster:
Pa. was off at school until Thursday, but I had Thursday and Friday off, so I didn't get to say anything until today. In fact, one of the first things he said to me when he got in was that he's the one who drew on the pig. But. There was a method to his madness, which nobody actually got: He was trying to reference A Clockwork Orange, where apparently someone draws extra eyelashes on one eye. Sadly, I am not familiar with either the book or the movie, only
benchilada's Halloween costume that he posted not too long ago. I think only K had any idea that that's what he meant. The only problem was that the marker he was using was too thick, so he couldn't get individual eyelashes; that's why Oinky appears to have a black eye. See, had he drawn a spider in the corner, I would have guessed Charlotte's Web; had he put a stick under the head, I would have guessed Lord of the Flies. I'd curse him for being too well-read, but he's only seen the movie of A Clockwork Orange. Now that I know what this is all about, I find it humorous. I'm still upset that he messed with my pig, but it was done in such a literate fashion that I suppose I'll let it slide.
Also: I get to play with a new boy tomorrow. We haven't had a full-fledged new person since Pa. started, and he's been here over a year. Should be interesting...
