I am so thrown off this week. Working that extra day has addled my brain. Yesterday seemed like Wednesday, and today seemed like Thursday. Mix in general exhaustion, and I'm lucky I still know my own name. Worse, I was really crabby this morning, which always makes the day so much better. Two more days...only two more days...
But I do have something freaky/funny from Sunday. R was ringing up P for employee savings days, and since employee sales tend to be more drawn out than regular sales, we'd opened the other register. A guy came up to me at that time and asked for a $150 gift certificate. Wow. Okay. And when he went to pay...the name on the credit card was the same as one of my relatives. Freaky. He hadn't signed the back of the card, so I had to see his license...and he lives in my town. Now, there was a roofer based in my town that shared the last name; I asked if he was related to them. No, but he said us Polocks are everywhere. That's when I revealed I had the same last name, and I have an uncle that shares his name, and it turned out the guy's daughter has the same name as my aunt (both the aunt and uncle are in California), and she was very excited to meet someone else with her last name. Cute. Weird, but cute. I was just worried it might be a case of identity theft, but my last name supposedly is like a Polish version of Smith, i.e. rather common.
There was a girl in my year in college with the same last name; everyone would always ask if we were related. No. In fact, we didn't meet until our sophomore year, when she was the assistant in my psych class. We look nothing alike, either. Even odder: She was from the same small town my friend Betsy ended up teaching in. The world is just too small sometimes.
