I didn't get to talk to grandma last weekend; I tried calling but got no answer, and then mom and my uncle had their meeting that afternoon. I was looking forward to this week's call to share some of what's been going on. And...thwarted. Grandma didn't answer right away but called within a couple minutes. She somehow knew her phone was going off but didn't know where it was; she'd put it in her purse. And she has so much stuff going on, like 12 things! She had laundry going, and was going to run to the store, and...
And then mom went, the Meals on Wheels guy wants to talk to you. You need to call him tomorrow, because he tried to call on Friday and there was no answer. He's going to ask you some questions. Mom went on to say, they might be the day of the week, what month it is, that sort of thing. Grandma was trying to pick her brain but mom told her, I don't know exactly what he's going to ask you, which seemed to disappoint her. Yeah, there will be no cheating on this pop quiz.
Grandma's mood changed on a dime around that time, likely remembering what happened last week and how it seems like my uncle's family is now on board with her moving, and possibly doing this relatively quickly. We weren't on the phone for very long because grandma had to get going and basically pushed us off the call, but mom talked with her brother a little later. He is going out of town this week but his daughter is supposed to go there next week with paperwork to sign so grandma will get an apartment at the place they checked out on Thursday. Yeah...I can see why grandma's mildly upset. Then again, mom asked if she'd talked to my uncle anytime recently and grandma said no. Then mom found out they'd talked in the past couple days. Like...there are reasons the family wants to do this. And grandma also admitted that life can be hard. Yes, we know. That's why we want to make it easier on you.
family,
grandma
