Today I'm cooking with gas

I mean, the stove is gas-powered, so the subject heading is true. :)

Despite this being quite the interesting work week--we're hitting the busy season, officially as of yesterday--I had a fair amount of energy today. My parents went out on dad's friend's boat on Wednesday, and they came back with a bunch of produce, including a bunch of tomatoes. Guess it's tomato tart season! I joke that they're surrogate tomatoes--they may not have been grown in our yard, but they're plants my father grew in the basement. Also, a pepper. (The strawberries were the friend's own. And did not go on the tart.)

This is the only time of year I make tomato tarts, so it's kind of exciting. The lettuce has started growing back as well, so I decided to make a small Caesar salad too, though the leaves are on the small side since they've only been growing back for a month. When mom ate the salad, she said, I don't know that I really like this cheese, never mind that it's the same cheese I used when I've made homemade Caesar salad before, and parmesan is the cheese used in Caesar salad kits. I said, the leaves are a little bitter, and she went, okay, maybe it's that. ...Sigh.

And I made a beverage, too. I'd bought two lemons for when I was off work, and I only used one of them that week. I put lemon juice on my hair to try to brighten it, and I sit outside for a while to let the sun do its work as well, but the week I was off it was kind of chilly and cloudy so I only did it once. The lemon needed to be moved along, so I made a batch of iced tea and sliced the lemon to help flavor it. Not bad. But it's regular black tea, so it has some caffeine, which I usually avoid as caffeine's been known to give me migraines, but black tea doesn't seem to bother me in that way. It just makes me kind of loopy, I suppose. Mom said I was kind of giggly and then suggested I have more black tea. Yeah, no, it's a nice treat every once in a while, but I actually have felt kind of tired today, so I will stick to my caffeine-free herbal tea on the regular, thanks. But they both appreciated having lunch made for them. I figured I'd better do it now while I still had energy. There's no telling what I'll feel like come next Saturday.
