Sweater washing weather

For my first vacation task, I...washed my winter sweaters. This is a good job to do while I'm off, as it takes all week for my big heavy sweater to dry fully and my drying rack takes up a fair amount of space in my bathroom. I did this yesterday afternoon. It wasn't uncommon for the sweaters to smell a little funky when I was done, so last year at least, maybe the year before, I started putting some lavender essential oil in the water to see if that helped. The wool smell still came through, and that may never fully go away, but I tried something new this year. I'd started putting my clothes in baking soda water earlier this year to help freshen them up, so for the first rinse I added a cup of baking soda to the water while washing them, along with baby shampoo and more lavender oil. I did two more rinses and added lavender to those but nothing else, and so far there's no unusual odor, not even the wool smell, really. My lighter sweater seemed pretty dry this morning, though I'll let it air out all week, along with the heavy sweater. I rotate them on the rack as well, just to make sure everything gets proper circulation before I store them in a drawer. At least that got accomplished. One task is checked off the list.
