I had a productive day, way more so than usual. That was because I got the house to myself for much of the afternoon and evening, and without anyone being nosy, I was able to get stuff done.
This had been my plan for today for several weeks, and I made sure to write it down so I'd remember. My room has not been in great shape in a while and needed a bit of a reset, not to mention dusting and vacuuming. I even had a system: Put on a CD, clean until the CD ended, take a break. It worked out that the three main areas that I cleaned took the 45 minutes to an hour that the CDs lasted, so that was convenient. My small bookcase, entertainment center, and long dresser hadn't been dusted in well over a year, I'd say. Everything got wiped down, and while I didn't really get rid of anything, there were a couple items where I realized perhaps I might move them along in the future, namely the glass jars that hold these tissue paper flowers I made years ago. The paper has faded and I'm not sure I really need them, but I did put them back this time. I vacuumed a few times just because I was kicking up so much dust, in addition to moving things to the floor temporarily. There are also a number of things that ended up on my bed...which are still on my bed...I need to figure out what I want to do with them. Not everything had a designated spot so that's the hard part, or perhaps I don't want them out any longer and I'm not sure where "away" is at the moment.
I did get some outside time; after two CDs, I had lunch and went out for a bit, and after the third CD I got in an hour of lemon-headed newspaper reading in the sun. After dinner and a shower, I went to Target to pick up the couple items that caught my eye last week but didn't buy. One was this butterfly-shaped earring holder, since I've gotten so many pairs of earrings recently, and...I bought the backpack-style luggage. I saw last week that it was on sale up through today, and I liked the various pockets it had, and what the heck. At the very least, it will give me an idea of what I can and can't bring as carry-on luggage. The one thing I wanted to buy but couldn't find? Suave shower gel. Just super basic, super cheap shower gel. I think the cheapest one was over $4; I'm used to paying a dollar or two. I keep a pump of gel in my shower because sometimes I just want to wash my hands, and I don't need anything fancy, and it was really surprising to me not to find basic shower gel. I guess I'll try the grocery store. That was the one bummer for today, but everything else was pretty productive, plus my parents brought home cookies and other food from the party they went to, so all is good.
