News overload for a jam-packed Saturday

Jul 13, 2024 22:49

A lot happened today and basically ate my day away.
--Normal Saturday stuff, i.e., bank and grocery shopping, with a shower thrown in for good measure (I don't always shower on Saturdays)
--Windmill Fest, so mom and I were downtown for a few hours
--A two-hour phone call with Dr. K as we've both wanted to chat for a bit but had to figure out a time that worked for both of us
--While on the call, he's the one who broke the news to me that Richard Simmons had died, and reminded me about the Richard Simmons Show from the early '80s which I am super surprised he remembered because I am two years older than him and *I* barely remember it (though there was a scene involving a bowl of popcorn flying through the air that does remain in my brain)
--Once we finally finished, it was close to 5:30 and I went downstairs to make dinner and found myself watching the breaking news that 45 survived an assassination attempt, though it had happened so recently at that time that they didn't even know right away that anyone else had been hit or that it was a shooting with real bullets or anything; that's basically been in the background for the rest of my evening
--And then there also came the news that Dr. Ruth Westheimer had also passed away
...So of my regular Saturday stuff that I'd normally have done, much of it didn't get done. I suppose that's okay. Up until 5:30, I was having a pretty good day, productive in its own way and overall enjoyable, but there's a lot to process before I can delve more into everything.

death, friends, windmill fest, dr. k, phone call, festivals
