I'm still pretty wound up from this past week. So much for a restful vacation. I don't think I've crammed this much stress into a short period of time in a while. I'm less depressed about things, which is good, but I still couldn't fall asleep until about 3 AM. I wouldn't call it buyer's remorse, but I'm still sort of shell-shocked by what's transpired in the past week. I'm super tense and need to remind myself to relax. It'll be okay. This is why I have a couple calming podcasts I subscribe to; it's the only thing that's helped me doze off lately.
Today's things to deal with included calling Toyota a few times to try to get the refund on my parts. I ended up playing phone tag with the guy. He called back at almost six o'clock and was apologetic--today happened to be their Christmas lunch, so in addition to just general Friday shenanigans, he also had to do everything by himself while his crew enjoyed their meal. Aw, that's too bad. I'm glad it was taken care of and I got all my money back, though. I'd also called the insurance company to remove the one car and put on the new car, and that was super quick...and then mom and I realized, wait, what coverage exactly do I have? The lady had asked if I wanted the same coverage and I went, sure! Then had to call back to double-check that what Toyota required as part of the loan was what I was getting. It is. We have good coverage. The lady was sweet, too, telling me, congrats on the new car! Thank you, I told her.
Mom, of course, wanted to go for a ride. Our initial plan for today was to go to Woodfield, but since we had no concrete places on where to go, we were all happy to cancel it. We did a lot of walking around on Wednesday; dad and I were drained from yesterday; and I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money right now. I've spent enough this year. Mom loves spending money, and she told me she had done zero Christmas shopping so far--joking she already bought us everything they sell on QVC--so she encouraged me to take her to JC Penney in the hopes she could buy me a couple things. I could use a pair of brown pants and black flats. Alas, we did not find the pants at all (no, mom, maroon is not the new brown), and the shoes I tried didn't fit or weren't comfortable, so we passed. We were down in North Aurora and we walked down the whole strip mall over to Target, since I needed to stop there for a few things. I was so out of it that I forgot my list (thankfully I remembered 7 of 8 items I'd written down) as well as my reusable bag, but I had one for Penney's so that was good. I was just pretty exhausted and not thinking clearly. We also stopped at the dollar store before coming home. Mom seems pleased with the car. We'd happened to park near a newer Camry and a Highlander so mom could see how those cars compared to the RAV4.
Mom ended up running some errands, including getting gas for her car, and she had a situation come up. The pump put $2 and change into her car and then stopped. That was weird. For whatever reason, she pulled the nozzle out of her car, thinking the gas had stopped flowing, but it hadn't. She quickly found herself covered in gasoline. I don't even know when she came home, but she immediately tossed nearly everything she had on in the wash, unaware that the machine has a warning about putting items with gas on them in there. It was pretty stinky in the laundry room and I suggested she open the garage door to let everything dissipate; we had that open for about a half hour until dad got too cold in the family room.
