It's been a weird parking week.
Monday, the city decided that was a good time to dig a hole in the ground between our two buildings at work while simultaneous blocking every parking spot belonging to our business and then some. The truck parked in front of the back building was perpendicular to the parking spots, up by the dumpsters, leaving spaces open closer to the service road. My anxiety spiked overnight for no obvious reason so to come in and see that just sent me through the roof temporarily, and I ended up parking in the lower space to where I'd normally park. Screw you, workers. And at that point, the truck still had room to maneuver as nobody else was there. Later in the day, when the summer intern arrived, the truck was gone and there was a parking spot available in front of my car, so she awkwardly parked in front of me--as in, she was diagonally parked across two spaces in order to get her car there. Oh my. Our neighbors are done around 2 PM so I knew they wouldn't be bothered by her car partly being in their spot.
Tuesday was its own special situation. No city trucks blocked us in, so I was able to park in my normal spot up by the dumpsters. The intern took her car in for an oil change so she got a ride; didn't need to worry about her. Around 6, I heard the back door open, which is unusual at that time. BBC walked in, saying he was there to "kidnap" Puffy, who doubles as a room renter and was finishing up with her client. I thought nothing more about it when they left until an hour later, when it was time for me to leave--and I discovered wherever they went, they took BBC's new car, conveniently leaving Puffy's car behind mine. You can bet BBC (whose phone number I know offhand) got an unhappy phone call about that. He said wherever they were was a half-hour south and they'd just gotten there, but I should be able to move the dumpsters in order to get out. I said, I will not be held responsible if I hit Puffy's car. I could hear her in the background going, please don't hit it! Believe me, not my goal. So the first dumpster I was able to move pretty easily; the wheel locks on the second, AKA the one in front of my car, did not want to disengage. Grr. And, combined with the neighbor's dumpster, we have three in a row so unless I wanted to move *that* one, I had to figure out what to do. Thankfully the wheel locks finally cooperated, though I did wonder if I'd get worker's comp for this situation if I ended up hurting myself. I did not put them back; I left that for BBC and Puffy to deal with when they returned, which they did. I was very sore Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but naproxen and ibuprofen helped a lot and I'm not too bad so far today. Still...don't do that again, please.
