The rest of the weekend

Aside from going out with grandma on Saturday and the parade yesterday, my weekend was blissfully quiet. I did a lot of sitting. That was nice.

I cannot underestimate how important that was in helping my legs feel better after last week. I honestly was concerned about how I'd make it through the parade, if my legs would give out or what. Luckily, I had no issues.

On Sunday, grandma's actual birthday, we ended up talking with her twice. I did try calling at 1 PM like normal, but her phone went right to voicemail. Given the date, I hoped she was talking to someone else on the phone. My guess was right; a former coworker at her longtime job remembered it was her birthday and they talked for an hour. Oh, how nice. She called us back right after getting off that first phone call, but said her ear hurt and we only talked for a couple minutes. No worries; we just saw you yesterday. A little while later, she called back to exclaim that she had seven whole shrimp in her leftovers, wow! Heh. Her platter did come with a lot of them, that can't be denied, but she was so excited over that.

Yesterday once I got home, I discovered my dad had gone out and gotten a watermelon from Aldi, having initially made the trip to get buns for hamburgers. He didn't find feta for red, white, and blue salad, but decided to try goat cheese instead. It was an interesting twist but the saltiness of the feta plays off the sweetness of the melon and blueberries and is the better choice. I spent several hours out on the deck just reading the paper and enjoying being outside. This week has the potential to be rough as well and I've been dealing with anxiety, so it was nice to be able to calm myself down and just relax, not to mention being amused at the animal antics. Chippy the chipmunk is enjoying "deck water," AKA the sugar water dripping off our leaking hummingbird feeder. For the birds, my dad fixed our leaking birdbath and I got to see several flying friends drink from that. Dad previously had seen a robin go to town in it; someone was happy to encounter some water. It's just so dry outside. Rain finally is in the forecast but not for a week. That'll be nice for everything once it comes.
