On the grandma call yesterday, she let us know that her building was doing some sort of repairs and she'd have to have her car out of the garage all day today...so she'd be going to the casino. She can't shop all day, you know. ...But you can gamble! I replied. She then invited mom to join her if she wanted, because it's not like she has to pay to enter. No, it's just her time and gas to get there. Mom was like, wasn't there just a shooting over there? Yeah...kinda...sounds like someone got robbed in the parking lot. Just what we need, another reason to be concerned about grandma going to the casino. Mom was still debating yesterday if she was going to go or not, but she did go get gas just in case.
Meanwhile, grandma kept going, there was something I wanted to talk to you about... I did bring up Easter early on but she didn't hear me. She'd recently lost her hearing aids and hasn't found them, to the point where she might have to get another set. Anyway, mom brought it up and grandma went, that's it! Yeah, she's not interested in coming over, and it looks like we won't be doing much for it anyway. For the J-dubs, this is "memorial week" or something like that, so they have several services. Grandma was invited to join them both Sunday and Tuesday. She balked because she'd have to spend the night, and she started listing her reasons as to why she doesn't like spending the night anywhere any longer--our places have stairs, you know, and she has to share the bathroom and can't just go whenever she wants, and she already sleeps weird when she's at her place and it just gets worse when she's away from home. She didn't go yesterday and was thinking about tomorrow, but we're supposed to have severe weather so mom and I were like, we don't want any of you out in that; my relatives would need to pick her up and bring her home. Grandma was noncommittal either way. The weather is supposed to rival, if not be worse than, what we had this past Friday; the National Weather Service has now confirmed 15 tornados and is still doing surveys, including here on the south side of Batavia.
After the phone call, I was thinking about the whole memorial service thing. The J-dubs seem to feel this is a somber week from what I've gathered. Wild, since the rest of Christianity treats it like a celebration. I mean, Christianity's whole reason for existing is due to the basis of Jesus dying and being resurrected. It was proof that he was the son of God. I'm not even religious anymore and I get that part. I don't claim to understand anyone's belief system but that goes counter to what is taught. I don't care enough to look into it, but that was what popped into my head after talking with grandma.
