And he's gone

Mar 20, 2023 07:21

I'd been waiting all weekend for news. This wasn't a "no news is good news" situation; you knew death was imminent and it was just a matter of when. Consider, for his father's past two birthdays in December, BBC had said earlier in the year, he may not make it. This has finally come to pass.

I got word late last night that BBC Sr. had died. It was weird; I'd left my phone on, which I don't always do, and I'd basically gone to bed about 10. Shortly before 11, I was awakened by the feeling of having to go to the bathroom. I thought to check my phone and had a text from DW; BBC Sr. passed away about 10:15. Man, roughly three days; how agonizing for his family.

DW had shared the message from the office manager, who'd also let him know that he had plans to be out of the office for a few hours today but could bail if we thought we needed him. DW said that he and I could handle it, which should be true. I have no idea what will happen, if services will be this week or sometime in the future, but I'm relieved for BBC Sr.'s family that this is all over. Knowing what BBC and his mom went through in caring for Sr. at home, what had to be done to continue caring for him at a facility, and the fact that the Sr. we knew hadn't been there for years...it's sad, but it's like the family can finally exhale. BBC Sr. has been released from this devastating illness.
