Ending La Vida Olympica

So, I had several things I wanted to write about from this morning, but all I can think of is this (point of reference: I just spent two hours watching the closing ceremonies):
I really haven't liked Ricky Martin since his Menudo days.
He hasn't done anything spectacular in years. He's not Italian; he's not Greek or Canadian. Why was he there?

Oh, yes, to go along with the HORRIBLY CHEESY MUSIC the Italians insisted on playing at both the opening and closing ceremonies.

See, now, I wondered about Avril Lavigne for a bit. Sure I enjoy her music, but the Olympics? Really? Until I caught on that, hello, Vancouver is in Canada, that's where the next Winter Olympics will be held, it makes sense that they'd have a Canadian singer perform in some way. And Andrea Bocelli, Italian, cool. But Ricky Martin? I could only tolerate him on mute, as that way it was harder to tell that he was totally lipsynching. I mean, come on. At least have an earpiece to make it *look* like you're trying.

And I have to admit, not much could top Vancouver's mayor swinging the flag around. Seriously, world's coolest mayor. And more proof that Canada is a cool country in as many ways as there are possible.
(If you missed it, the mayor is a paraplegic, and he built himself a container for his wheelchair so that he, himself, could carry the flag. Very cool.)

Countdown to Vancouver starts...now.
