The wake-up call

Nov 05, 2021 07:29

I usually wake up at 6 AM when my TV "alarm" turns on. I'll physically get out of bed around 6:30, but I'm awake before then for the most part. (Fridays, after band...been kinda iffy lately, not gonna lie.) I get up, I'll Wii, at 7 I watch the news, and at 7:30 I go down for breakfast. Just before 8, I go up to take a shower.

Yesterday, as I'm coming up for my shower, my mother is coming from my end of the hall. Uh...what's up? She was concerned that I was still in bed. WGN tends to make us, dad and me, laugh in the morning, but yesterday we were fairly quiet downstairs, so my mom was legitimately concerned that I wasn't up yet despite it being nearly two hours later than when I'd normally wake up. Mom...is unaware of using ambient clues to determine a situation, so the fact that my TV was off, with no known power outages, should've been a sign that all was well. I don't leave my TV on after I go down for breakfast. But mom's usually still asleep at that point so, you know.

I guess I should be glad that, at nearly 44, my mother is still concerned about me? She didn't do this when I was a quarter that age, so perhaps that's why it's so perplexing now.

mom, family
