Pasta impasse

On my last Monday before I go back to Regular Band, I ended up having to work late as my boss was sick. When I got home, I discovered not one, but two containers of pasta on the stove. Monday's traditionally pasta night, so one wouldn't have been a surprise...but why two?

Mom recently went back to Weight Watchers (I hate that they went to WW--might be shorter to write, but it's twice as long to say) and is back on her semi-healthy food kick. She's also impatient to eat. (...Do we sense why she might need WW?). She'd gotten lentil pasta and decided to make it at 3 PM. Meanwhile, dad had planned to make a pasta salad, and still made that, using cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden, plus the rest of the mozzarella balls we'd had in the fridge and possibly some spices. The cheese balls were marinated so it could've been the liquid from those.

This was not Sophie's Choice, that's for sure. I loaded up on dad's pasta, because I'm really not a fan of plain pasta with just tomato sauce. It's so boring. Years ago, when it was just dad and me for dinner--mom worked nights--he'd cook a pound of ground beef and then add sauce. It made all the difference. It's why I prefer it when he makes pasta salad, or tuna surprise. I finally said something to them, especially when mom came downstairs to ask if I'd tried her pasta. I did, I didn't prefer it, can we not have just plain pasta any longer? Like, it's not worth eating any longer.

...My parents weren't sure how to take that, especially since we've kinda been eating it like that for years. Purely because mom wants to eat it like that; it's certainly not my father's choice, but he picks his battles. Well, maybe mom needs to suck it up and find another solution. There are times when dad makes meatballs in sauce, and that's fine, but mom needs a separate container of sauce because, I don't know, the meatballs have cooties or something. No, they have flavor. And protein. And flavor. Did I mention flavor?
