Winding through the wind

It's been exceptionally windy in the past 24 hours. To wit, I kept waking up last night because it was just that noisy due to the wind. During the first week of daylight savings, that's not what I need. It's almost the wind equivalent of a bad thunderstorm, just these sudden knocks or bangs or what have you that prevent you from falling and staying asleep.

It's the sort of wind that shakes your car at a stoplight. Where you have to have a firm grip on the door handle whenever you try to open it, lest the wind catches it and causes it to fly open--or the opposite, you try to open a door into the wind and it won't budge. I had that happen at work today at one point. There are some days where I know it's better to wear my hair back and tightly bunned; this was one of those days. Let's not fool around. Even if I wanted to wear it down, it would be all over the place.

It does seem calmer than it did earlier, though it's still gusty. Mom mentioned 50 MPH gusts when I walked in the door after work tonight. I'd believe it. The trees in front of my job spent the day waving their branches at me. I imagine it was worse out in the boonies. It's days like today I don't miss working outside. My ears used to howl for hours after windy days.
