Our house has long been a beacon to critters. We haven't had outside pets in 20 years, whereas the surrounding houses had dogs for the longest time. We were a refuge from that. We've continued to be a refuge, but we didn't set out to be; it just happened that way. For the most part, that's fine. Sometimes, it would be nice to go outside and not have to worry about living beings.
When I got home today, I noticed a bunny sitting in my parking space on the driveway. It was where my front driver's side tire would normally go. Uh, bun-bun, you're going to have to move. I slowly drove up the driveway; the bunny stared me down. Like, bunny, I hate to break it to you, but my car is going to go where you're sitting. I'd prefer you not be under it at the time. Closer, closer, until I could barely see it over the hood. At that point, I had to get out of the car, and finally seeing a human being made it skedaddle. Bun-bun. If something is moving toward you, person or not, that should be a sign to MOVE.
...Silly rabbit.
Then tonight, I went on a Target run. Ever since I spotted the possum, I've been checking the side of the porch to see if it's back. Thankfully no, but we saw its prints in the snow last week. Okay, we're clear, I can go out in the dark. I'd put on the porch light for when I returned, and thanks to that I could see a four-legged figure on the driveway, partway down. Oh, crap, what is this now. My first thought was coyote, actually, which freaked me out. I think I'd already shut the door but wondered if I needed to go back inside. Once my brain started to take in more data, I realized it likely was too small to be a coyote, and also realized it was more feline than anything else. As my eyes adjusted, the kitty appeared to be ginger. It did not stick around for long--it's not a dumb bunny--and trotted down the driveway and over to the sidewalk. I lost track of it while getting in my car, but that was interesting. I know of a few neighborhood cats, so I'm wondering who this one belongs to.
