Too soon for snowmen

One of dad's buddies is a woodworker, and he came out to the monthly flea market at the Kane County Fairgrounds to sell his wares. Since we're so close, and this guy lives in the city, up by Superdawg, the friend let dad know he was coming; the wife did the same to mom. So, they headed out there for a few hours. Dad had something for the friend anyway, so it was more than a social visit, and dad wanted to buy a couple things.

On our way to the store this morning, dad mentioned he wanted a snowman/scarecrow: Snowman on one side, scarecrow on the other. He did buy one, but it wasn't exactly as I'd pictured; I figured it would be shaped. Instead, it's two planks of wood on a holder, with a hat shape at the top, painted with a scarecrow face on one side and a snowman face on the other. I mean, it's fine, but I sort of expected more than two planks of wood to make the shape, that's all. Dad also got this box that had a jack o'lantern face carved in the front, and the top comes off and has a light in it, so it's sort of a wooden jack o'lantern. Mom must've been all hopped up on caffeine and pop, because even after I told her, yes, dad showed me how it worked, she insisted on turning on the light...then couldn't figure out how to turn it back off. Uh, do the opposite of what you did to turn it on, silly.

The wife had bought her lunch, which was nice, but it made her restless. I had made a tomato tart for dinner; dad was asleep by then, and mom came down and had a piece, then a second, then couldn't sit still. She wears flip-flops around the house and it reminded me of when we had the dog, this constant clip-clopping on the floor. Mom, why are you so restless? Go sit down! She and dad were both waiting for packages, and despite it being about 5:30 at the time, the mail hadn't arrived; it came after 6 PM, but there were the packages, and she calmed down.
