Today was Laura's last day of freedom before joining the "dark side" (she's switching bookstore chains...the horrors!), and since we both had the day off, we got together. Of course, I still had to buy most of her presents run errands this morning, and I ran late, so I called her later than I wanted, but that was okay. Then I had some housework to do, but that took longer than expected as well, and I got out of the house late. Bah. But I saw her pulling into her spot at the mall (our meeting place) just as I was pulling in, so it worked out.
Our annual birthday/Christmas get-together involves Dave & Buster's, the adult arcade. Good times. Except the last time we went we had a bad experience at the restaurant, so we didn't get food there this time. Let me tell you, going on a Monday afternoon while school was in session was probably the best thing ever--virtually no one was on the midway when we got there. Overall it was fun, but there were a couple of games that had defects (my skeeball lane wasn't registering the low points...whoops...but I did really well on the first game so I didn't notice right away). And, sob, the big rig simulator wasn't working at all. We'll have to save it for next time.
Before we went in we exchanged gifts. I had a Fallon-rific birthday with both the book Snowball Fight and the movie Taxi, which we'll watch for the next movie night (along with Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle...don't ask). (Yes, I am a huge dork. Thank you for noticing.) Laura got two balls of yarn, a small picture frame with a hippo on it, and a Lost calendar. Good times.
We decided to forgo lunch but wanted birthday treats, but then we had to decide where to go. We're both wishy-washy. Laura ended up doing a version of "eenie meenie miney mo" to decide on...Friday's by the mall. Um, well, next time we'll get out the Magic 8 ball. Our brownie sundaes were fine, but our hostess/waitress was a bit...overzealous. She was very into Laura's coat. I mean, really into it, asked where she got it, if it came in different colors, what have you. I have a feeling the restaurant gets very lonely during the midday hours (we got there around 4:45). When we finished, Laura went to the ladies' room, and I was alone with said waitress, who then started asking me all sorts of questions about what were my plans for Christmas, and was I a real tree or a fake tree person, and she likes real trees, only small ones 'cause she has a small house, and she likes the Charlie Brown-style trees, and I think now I realize the reason women go to the bathroom together.
I had a surprise when I got home: The camp photo CD came today. There are over 600 photos on it. So far, I haven't come across any of my own (yes, I'm bad like that), but there are pictures of me in there that I've found. There's also multiple pictures of the same scene in there, like here's Bobby loading the truck...here's another of Bobby loading the truck...here's a third picture of Bobby loading the truck...um, couldn't we have gotten it down to the best picture of Bobby loading the truck? Maybe it's just me. Or maybe it's the brownie talking...my sugar high wore off a while ago, whoo.
