Aaand I was back to sleeping with my head up last night. But it wasn't because of my cold.
So, Friday night. I was able to sleep with my bed flat. I was also able to sleep through the night--mostly. At some point, I woke up with this pain around my right eye. I don't even know how to explain it because I'm not sure what caused it. It almost felt like when I get a bad pimple by a nerve ending and it's really bothersome, and it got poked, but there's no zit in the area. It was just this searing, raging bolt that woke me and made me grab at the area around, mainly above, my eye. I realized I felt tense, so perhaps that caused it, but weird that it was so localized. It was very intense but I was able to realize my muscles were tight and I must have been able to relax just enough to go back to sleep. That was not pleasant.
Then, last night. I'd gotten a few new-to-me items at the grocery store--edamame hummus, two different flavors of pretzel thins (vegetable; chocolate caramel drizzle), these healthy cracker chips, non-dairy frozen mousse (I guess legally they can't call it ice cream? It's very light and airy--the container weighs nearly nothing). Nosy Rosie, AKA mom, saw the cracker chips (I honestly can't recall what they are...crackers in a bag? Something with healthy-type grains and things in them) and started reading the ingredients going, I can't eat these! They have X in them! They will give you gas and make you poop! ...Okay, number one, they weren't bought for you. Number two, they were bought without any regard to the ingredients, only because it sounded intriguing, because number three, they were in the bargain bin and the price was right for me to try them. You aren't being forced to eat them. Just leave them alone.
And then, hours later, those words came back to me in force, because HOLY CRAP did something not agree with me and make me feel like my stomach was about to explode. I should also mention that I'd had leftover potato soup, which is creamy and to which my father added bacon. I'm not a fan of cream-based soups typically, but this got a rare thumbs-up from me. Mom, however, noticed there was lactose in it and won't eat it anymore, so we won't be buying it again most likely. I ended up finishing off the rest of it, meaning I had a bigger bowl than normal, but it all still (barely) fit in the bowl I was using. So, I don't know if my stomach had issues digesting the soup, or if something else was fermenting in there, or what, but I was so uncomfortable. And, um, I did attempt to relieve pressure plenty; there was still more in there. I'd started to fall asleep around 9, 9:30, but within a couple hours I was awake. Nothing really seemed to help. I started doing ab-type exercises to see if that would encourage things to move along, crunches and things. All that air needed to get out. Oh, my gosh. I felt miserable. I finally had a "duh" moment and realized I had some gas pills, so I took a couple of those, and that eventually neutralized the problem, phew. Eventually I was able to fall asleep but it was probably after 1 AM by that time. I'd also decided to prop my head up a bit since that seemed to help the situation for whatever reason.
I was a little leery of eating some of the newer food today because of what happened yesterday. I did have both kinds of pretzel crisps again, and felt a bit bubbly after that--hmm, maybe that's the culprit--and eventually had some more of the frozen mousse and that was okay. I skipped the healthy crackers and the hummus. That might be an experiment for Wednesday. However, I felt pretty not-good for much of the morning. I had a headache and I couldn't tell if it was because I was tired, since I didn't really get to bed until well after my bedtime, if it was sinus pressure related to the remnants of my cold, or what. I spent part of that time lying on my bed just sort of chilling, which helped, as standing brought the headache back on. I finally broke down and took an ibuprofen and that eased things up. I'm just hoping I can sleep through the night. Tomorrow's a long day.
