Christmas in July (details, details)

Back at Christmas, my dad bought me replacement speaker covers for my car. These are the ones by my rear windshield, which have collapsed over the years and just looked terrible. I was kind of hoping for a fabric cover, but dad got me identical plastic covers to what the car already had. Okay, fine, won't look a gift horse in the mouth. However, he refused to install the covers during the winter, then forgot about them until I reminded him recently. When we got back from grocery shopping today, he had me back into the garage a bit--mom was out running errands--so he'd have better access to them. As soon as he started, he realized he couldn't just pop them out, and they wouldn't just unscrew. Hmm. Better consult YouTube. The first video sounded like it was put together by some guy in his early 20s who said "like" every other word, and without even seeing what was going on I could tell things were dubious, so dad found a second video from someone probably in his 40s or 50s whose explanations and dealings were way more acceptable, and after a little while I walked out to check on things and voila, they were better. Sweet. Thanks. Except now I had to clean my car.

The plastic of the covers completely disintegrated, leaving little pieces of plastic all over the place. The second video guy suggested putting down plastic or a tarp or something to try to catch all the bits; dad used landscape fabric as it was handy, but he still couldn't get everything. The task also involved partially dismantling the backseat of my car, like the fabric panels between the seats and the doors had to come out. It was quite the chore, and vacuuming was definitely in order, and since we were already vacuuming that stuff, why not vacuum the whole car? It's 13 years old. It needs it. I've wanted to do this for a long time, and it's even on my checklist of stuff to do before camp, which is just four weeks away. So…since the shop vac is here, let's do this. And, since I'm in the mood, let's wipe down my door seals and things, because they're filthy. And I noticed a couple weeks ago that my windows could use a cleaning from the inside. All told, I spent two hours on it. My car could stand a wash as well but I stopped before hitting that point. Have I ever mentioned that when I have stuff on my mind, I clean? Yeah. That may have played into things. But my car absolutely needed this, and I needed this, so there you go.
