Day 6: Another record tie

Feb 22, 2017 19:14

We didn't quite make it to 70F, but we tied the record of 68F from 95 years ago. There was talk of us possibly tying the all-time February high of 75F, but morning fog prevented that from happening. No matter. It's still springlike a month out from actual spring. We've had six consecutive days of 60F-plus, which according to WGN has never happened before between December and February. No wonder we're all confused.

My coworker has three signs it must be spring: Someone wearing shorts, someone riding a motorcycle, and someone driving a convertible with the top down. I saw someone in shorts before I even left work, and on the ride home saw a number of motorcycles. It was the convertible that took a while, but I did see one, so trifecta accomplished. And yet, it's supposed to be in the 30s and snowing on Saturday. Great. Better, I have a work thing in the morning, so I have to be out in it.

There are a couple good things in the offing, at least. One, it's senior musical time at NCC, and Avery got tickets for tomorrow night. I didn't want to do Friday in case I had to be up early Saturday (likely no), and I know how tired I was last Saturday so I didn't want to do Saturday night for fear of falling asleep. Avery teaches until 6:45, though, so we're meeting in the lobby and she suggested going out afterward. I'm not sure how that will work, but there is a cafe on campus that's close to where we tend to park, and it's open until midnight, so we might do that so we can catch up with each other. I told her I wasn't sure how up I'd be for things, but just sitting around and talking should be fine. We usually end up doing that anyway, so at least we'll be in a place meant for that sort of thing, if we do it.

Also, I got a few emails yesterday that the piccolo player ended up with a family gathering on the day of our next concert, so I'll be playing picc. If you remember the solo I had to do a couple of weeks ago, well, I'll be playing it in the concert! Better crack down on practicing! The picc player brought the music to me today, and I'll turn it back in to her on Monday once I copy what I need. Because our concert was so far down the road, and it's a combined concert so we're only doing 7 pieces total, we've been working on the April and summer concerts as well, so I'll only be playing picc for some songs. I'm not sure how this will work for rehearsals, because usually there's just one of us. Guess I'll be sitting in the front row with her for a few weeks? Hmm.
