Oh, that tingles

Sometimes, when you get a tingly feeling, it's a good thing.

When it comes from your food...it's not so good.

My dad likes to buy prepackaged egg salad. It comes in a smallish container, so that in our household, where we like egg salad, it doesn't tend to last long. Like, if it makes it past 24 hours, it's unusual. So to come across it today in the fridge, when we last went shopping on Saturday, is downright strange.

Also downright strange: Pulling out the container and noticing the lid of it is bulging. Like, I can understand if there's some air in the package so that it's not pressed down and somewhat flat, but this was domed. However, it didn't strike me as more than simply odd right away. Mom is terrible about getting all the air out of containers and packaging when she closes something, so it really didn't strike me as unusual at first.

I'd decided to have it with crackers, and I used the crackers to scoop out the egg salad and put a few heaping piles onto my plate, intending to dip into it with the rest of the crackers. I close up the container and put a scoop on my tongue--and oh my goodness, there is burning. Not good. Not good! My tongue should not be tingling like this! Immediately the container went in the trash--aha, no wonder the lid was bulging--and I tossed the scooping crackers and salad in there as well, then spit out my mouthful. I salvaged what crackers I could and put them on another plate, then stuck the original plate with egg salad globs into the sink. No sense chancing getting more bad stuff into my mouth. Luckily I really didn't eat any of it, but really, when something basically starts to sizzle as soon as it touches your mouth, you're not going to let it go any further.

My crackers had hummus instead. It was fine.
